COURSE CURRICULUM

Accounting program provides students with a comprehensive academic and practical foundation in business and accounting principles. In Year 1, students are introduced to key business disciplines including financial accounting, management, marketing, finance mathematics, computer applications, and microeconomics. They also complete courses in communication and academic writing. Year 2 builds on this base with intermediate financial and management accounting, taxation, commercial law, finance, entrepreneurship, and macroeconomics, along with an introductory statistics course. Students also choose one elective from a wide range of Indigenous studies, sociology, history, global studies, and literature courses, allowing for a broader cultural and contextual understanding of business practices. Students pursuing the Co-op stream must complete either BUS 197 or BUS 297, which can also serve as an elective credit. In Year 3, students deepen their accounting expertise through advanced coursework in financial accounting, cost accounting, taxation, and quantitative decision-making, along with business information systems and advanced professional communication. Year 4 focuses on high-level topics including managerial accounting, financial accounting, auditing, and strategic management. Students also participate in a business simulation course, applying their cumulative knowledge in a practical setting, and study business ethics to round out their understanding of responsible and sustainable business practices. This structured and progressive curriculum ensures graduates are fully equipped for CPA certification and professional roles in accounting and finance.
