COURSE CURRICULUM

The Thesis Option in the Master of Science in Mathematics program at Nipissing University is designed for students seeking an in-depth research experience and typically requires two years to complete. Students in this option must successfully complete 24 credits, consisting of four 3-credit graduate-level courses and a 12-credit thesis. The program offers two pathways within the Thesis Option. In the first pathway, students take MATH 6100 (Thesis in Mathematics), MATH 5066 (General Topology), MATH 5086 (Functional Analysis), and two seminar courses: MATH 6206 and MATH 6207 (Graduate Seminar in Mathematics I and II). In the second pathway, students also complete MATH 6100 (Thesis in Mathematics) along with MATH 5236 (Advanced Numerical Methods), MATH 5246 (Optimization), and the same two seminar courses, MATH 6206 and MATH 6207. This option is ideal for students aiming to pursue doctoral studies or careers in academia, research, or industries requiring advanced mathematical modeling and analytical skills. The thesis allows students to engage in original research under the supervision of faculty experts, contributing to the advancement of mathematical knowledge while building strong theoretical and applied competencies.
