COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Environment and Sustainability requires students to complete 48 credits, combining core environmental science courses, Indigenous perspectives, digital techniques, and electives to provide a comprehensive understanding of environmental issues. The 18-credit Post-Baccalaureate Core includes foundational courses such as Weather and Climate, Environment and Society, Landscapes and Surface Processes or Physical Hydrology, Introductory Soil Science, Environmental Hydrology, and Geography of Canada. These courses build essential knowledge of physical geography, environmental processes, and regional landscapes. Students must also complete 12 credits focused on Environmental Studies and Indigenous Perspectives, choosing from courses like Indigenous Places – Changing Landscapes, Land-as-Home & Indigenous Well-being, Earth Resources, Natural Resource Management, and The Geography of Environmental Hazards. This section highlights the importance of Indigenous knowledge and the management of natural resources in sustainability practices. The 9-credit Digital Techniques requirement offers training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial analysis, and remote sensing, equipping students with technical skills for environmental data analysis. Additionally, students select 9 credits from a variety of upper-level geography and related courses, including Chemistry of Pollution, Environmental Ethics, Anthropology of Development in the Canadian North, and Multispecies Ethnography. This diverse curriculum ensures graduates are well-prepared to address complex environmental challenges through a blend of scientific, cultural, and technological approaches.
