COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate with a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) from Nipissing University, students must meet both program-specific and overall degree requirements, including first-year, subject maximum, and breadth regulations. Students are required to complete 120 credits with a minimum grade of 70% in key courses: SWRK 1007, SWLF 1006, SWRK 2006, and SWRK 2106. In the first year, students take foundational courses such as Introduction to Social Welfare and Social Development (SWLF 1006) and Introduction to Social Work (SWRK 1007), along with humanities and elective credits. It’s recommended to include ACAD 1601 within the humanities credits. During the second year, students apply for admission to the professional years, taking courses like Foundations of Social Work Practice (SWRK 2006) and Critical Social Policy for Social Work (SWRK 2106), plus electives. The third and fourth years are professional years, featuring advanced coursework including Social Work as a Transformative Practice, Indigenous Perspectives, Anti-Oppression Theorizing, and field practicums. Students complete two field placements (Field Practicum I and II) and select six credits from specialized Social Work electives such as Gerontological Social Work or Social Work with Children and Families. This comprehensive program prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to succeed in diverse social work settings.
