COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Environment and Physical Geography (BSc) at Nipissing University requires students to complete 120 credits, including 54 credits specific to the specialization, while meeting the Bachelor of Science (four-year) degree requirements such as first-year regulations, subject maximums, and breadth requirements. Students must achieve a minimum 60% average in the 54 specialization credits. The core specialization courses total 24 credits and include GEOG 1016 People, Place and Environment; GEOG 1017 Introduction to Physical Geography; GEOG 2017 GIS and the Earth from Space; GEOG 2026 Introduction to Quantitative Methods; GEOG 2106 Landscapes and Surface Processes; GEOG 2107 Climatology; GEOG 2126 Physical Hydrology; and GEOG 3086 Principles of Biogeography. Additionally, students must select 3 credits from GEOG 2136 Cultural Geography, GEOG 2146 Cities in a Changing World, or GEOG 2226 Environment and Society. Upper-level courses include 15 credits at the 3000 level, 9 credits at the 4000 level, and an additional 3 credits at either level. Other science requirements include 3 credits from GEOL 1006 or GEOL 1007, 3 credits from MATH 1036, MATH 1046, or MATH 1056, and 12 credits from various science and computer science courses such as biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, geology, and mathematics, not previously used to fulfill other requirements. Breadth requirements include ACAD 1601 (3 credits), 3 credits in Humanities, and 42 elective credits. This program prepares students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in physical geography, environmental science, and quantitative methods.
