COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Biology at Nipissing University is a four-year Bachelor of Science program that requires the completion of 120 credits, including 54 credits specifically within the biology discipline. Students must maintain a minimum 60% average in the 54 credits presented for the specialization. Core biology courses include BIOL 1006 Introduction to Molecular and Cell Biology, BIOL 1007 Introduction to Organismal and Evolutionary Biology, BIOL 2446 Principles of Ecology, BIOL 2557 Genetics, BIOL 3117 Biostatistics, and one course each from BIOL 2336 or 2337 (Seedless or Seed Plants) and BIOL 2836 or 2837 (Invertebrate or Vertebrate Zoology). Students are also required to complete 18 additional upper-level BIOL credits, with at least 15 of those at the 3000 or 4000 level. Supporting science requirements include CHEM 1006 and 1007 (General Chemistry I and II), a 1000-level MATH course (excluding specified ones), and 6 additional science credits (with no more than 3 from Biology). To fulfill breadth requirements, students must complete ACAD 1601, 3 credits in Humanities, 6 in Social Science and/or Professional Studies, and 39 elective credits. This program offers a comprehensive education in biological sciences while also providing flexibility for academic exploration across other disciplines.
