COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (BPHE) degree at Nipissing University requires students to complete 120 credits while meeting specific program standards, including a minimum average of 70% for Honours students and 60% for the regular program. Students may count no more than 24 credits of practical courses toward their degree requirements. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, offering courses such as Socio-Cultural Dimensions of Physical Activity, Motor Development, Health Concepts in Physical Education, Leadership and Professionalism, and a two-part Systemic Approach to Functional Human Anatomy. Students also study Motor Learning and Control, Biomechanics, Integrated Human Physiology, Psychology of Physical Activity, and Research Methods. Advanced courses include Exercise Physiology, Physical Fitness Principles, Adapted Physical Activity, and Nutrition and Physical Activity. Practical leadership placements, including Community Leadership Placement I and II or an International Experience, provide hands-on learning in community settings. Additionally, students take courses exploring sport from cultural, historical, and contemporary perspectives, such as Sport in Literature and Film, History of Sport in Canada, and Contemporary Issues in Sport and Physical Activity. The curriculum also includes academic writing and electives, ensuring a well-rounded education that prepares students for leadership roles in physical and health education, kinesiology, and related fields.
