COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Fine Arts at Nipissing University requires students to complete 120 credits, with a minimum of 60 credits in Fine Arts. Foundational courses include FAVA 1026 (Studio Foundations), FAVA 1206 (Art History I), and FAVA 1207 (Art History II). Students must also complete six credits of 2000-level Art History and Visual Studies courses, and choose three credits from either FAVA 2126, FAVA 2226, or FAVA 2227, as well as three credits from either FAVA 2046, FAVA 2416, FAVA 2417, or FAVA 2467. Additionally, 21 credits of 2000-level Studio courses are required. At the upper-year level, students take FAVA 3006 (Renaissance(s): Art and the Global Encounter), three credits from either FAVA 3346 or FAVA 3356, FAVA 3236 (Advanced 2D Studio), FAVA 3336 (Advanced 3D Studio and Expanded Media), and FAVA 4125 (Directed Studio Research and Professional Practice), which is a six-credit capstone experience. The program also includes university-wide breadth requirements such as ACAD 1601, six credits in Social Science and/or Professional Studies, six credits in Science, and 45 elective credits. This combination of studio practice, art history, and critical studies prepares students for diverse careers in the visual arts and creative industries.
