COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminal Justice at Nipissing University offers specialized streams in Criminology, Corrections and Community Justice Services, Policing, or Legal Studies & Administration, requiring a minimum 70% average for completion. The Bachelor of Arts (Four-year) degree focuses on the Criminal Justice Studies Stream, with a minimum average of 60%. Students must complete 120 credits, including core courses such as Introduction to the Canadian Criminal Justice System, Canadian Law, Sociology, Psychology, Criminological Theory, Canadian Criminal Law, and Racialization and Politics of Judicial Typecasting. In addition to these required courses, students select one of the five streams—Legal Studies and Administration, Corrections and Community Justice Services, Criminology, Criminal Justice Studies, or Policing. The Corrections and Community Justice Services and Policing streams include a 30-credit block offered in partnership with Canadore College, representing one academic year. Breadth requirements include 6 credits each in Humanities and Science, with ACAD 1601 recommended in the first 30 credits to fulfill part of the Humanities requirement. For the Criminal Justice Studies Stream, students must complete additional courses like Social Conflict and Solidarity, Criminal Justice Research, Psychology and Law, and Professional Development Seminar, alongside 27 credits of stream electives and 45 credits of general electives. Electives cover a broad range of topics including Commercial Law, Indigenous Legal Studies, Forensic Psychology, Victimology, and Human Rights, providing a comprehensive and flexible education tailored to diverse criminal justice careers.
