COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Political Science at Nipissing University requires students to complete a minimum of 120 credits, including 54 credits specifically within the specialization, while also meeting the Bachelor of Arts four-year degree requirements such as first-year regulations, subject maximums, and breadth requirements. To maintain satisfactory progress, students must achieve at least a 60% average in their 54 specialization credits. The core Political Science courses include foundational classes such as POLI 1006 Politics, Power and the Common Good, POLI 1007 Globalization and Global Citizenship, and the two-part series POLI 2106 Great Political Questions I and POLI 2107 Great Political Questions II. Students also take POLI 2706 Canadian Politics and POLI 2707 Canada and the World to deepen their understanding of national and international political dynamics. Additionally, students complete 36 credits of upper-level Political Science courses, which may include cross-listed courses with other disciplines. Beyond the specialization, students fulfill breadth requirements including ACAD 1601 (Academic Writing), six credits in Science, and 57 elective credits, allowing for flexibility and exploration of other academic interests. This program equips students with critical thinking and analytical skills essential for understanding political systems, power structures, and global issues, preparing graduates for careers in government, policy, international affairs, and related fields.
