COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Geography at Nipissing University requires students to complete 120 credits, including 54 credits specific to the specialization, while also meeting the Bachelor of Arts (four-year) degree requirements such as first-year regulations, subject maximums, and breadth requirements. To graduate, students must achieve a minimum 60% average in the 54 credits presented for the specialization. The program includes 12 credits of core courses: GEOG 1016 People, Place and Environment; GEOG 1017 Introduction to Physical Geography; GEOG 2017 GIS and the Earth from Space; and GEOG 2026 Introduction to Quantitative Methods. Additionally, students must complete 12 credits from a range of courses such as Landscapes and Surface Processes, Weather and Climate, Physical Hydrology, Cultural Geography, Cities in a Changing World, and Environment and Society. They are also required to take 3 credits in Regional Geography at the 3000 level, followed by 15 credits at the upper-level GEOG courses, including at least one 3000 or 4000 level course. The breadth requirements include ACAD 1601 for 3 credits, 3 credits in Humanities, and 60 elective credits. This comprehensive program equips students with a strong foundation in both physical and human geography, quantitative methods, and geographic information systems, preparing them for diverse career paths related to the environment, urban planning, and spatial analysis.
