COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Fine Arts (Studio Arts stream) at Nipissing University requires students to complete 120 credits, including 54 credits in Fine Arts with a minimum average of 60%. The program begins with foundational courses such as FAVA 1026 (Studio Foundations), FAVA 1206 (Art History I), and FAVA 1207 (Art History II). Students must complete six additional credits in 2000-level Art History and Visual Studies, along with three credits from either FAVA 2126, FAVA 2226, or FAVA 2227, and three credits from either FAVA 2046, FAVA 2416, FAVA 2417, or FAVA 2467. The core of the program includes 21 credits in 2000-level Studio courses. Upper-year courses include FAVA 3006 (Renaissance(s): Art and the Global Encounter), three credits from either FAVA 3346 or FAVA 3356, FAVA 3236 (Advanced 2D Studio), and FAVA 3336 (Advanced 3D Studio and Expanded Media), allowing students to deepen their creative and conceptual practice. The program also includes university-wide breadth requirements: ACAD 1601, six credits in Social Science and/or Professional Studies, six credits in Science, and 51 elective credits. This balanced structure offers both creative studio experience and academic engagement with the history and theory of visual culture.
