COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialization in Child and Family Studies requires students to meet the Bachelor of Arts (four-year) degree requirements, including regulations on first-year courses, subject maximums, and breadth requirements. Students must achieve a minimum 60% average in the 54 credits presented for this specialization and complete a total of 120 credits. Core courses include Introduction to Child and Family Studies, Introduction to Psychology I and II, Introduction to Sociology, Methods in Behavioural and Social Sciences, and Children, Families, and Social Justice. Additionally, students choose between Applied Human Development: Children and Youth or Childhood Development, as well as between Human Development: Adults and Aging or Adult Development. Six credits are required from either Statistics in Behavioural and Social Sciences or Scientific Methods and Analysis I and II. The program also includes 24 credits from two groups of Child and Family Studies courses, divided equally. Breadth requirements consist of courses such as ACAD 1601, Humanities, Science, and electives, totaling 54 credits, allowing students to broaden their academic experience. This comprehensive program combines foundational knowledge in psychology, sociology, and child and family studies with research methods and social justice topics, equipping students with the skills to understand and support diverse family dynamics and developmental stages across the lifespan.
