ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Niagara University (NU) is a private Catholic university founded on November 21, 1856, by the Congregation of the Mission in the Vincentian tradition. Located in Lewiston, New York, near Niagara Falls, the university initially began as Our Lady of Angels Seminary in Buffalo before moving to its current suburban campus in 1857. It officially became Niagara University in 1883 and remains under the leadership of Vincentian priests, with all its presidents belonging to the order. The university serves approximately 3,763 students, including 2,816 undergraduates, and offers over 80 undergraduate and graduate programs through five colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, Holzschuh College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Nursing, and College of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Niagara University emphasizes a liberal arts foundation while providing specialized professional training. Its business college has been AACSB accredited since 2001 and was renamed in 2022 after a $10 million donation from Jeff and Mary Helen Holzschuh. Another major gift from B. Thomas Golisano supported the creation of the Golisano Center for Integrated Sciences. The university also extends its educational presence into Canada, offering accredited programs in Ontario, including degrees in education, business, and information security, many in partnership with Seneca Polytechnic. Niagara’s academic programs focus on applied learning, ethics, and service in alignment with its Vincentian values. It has received notable rankings, including #30 among Regional Universities North, #2 in Best Value Schools, and #13 in Best Colleges for Veterans in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report.
