COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Relations (MPR) is an applied, non-thesis graduate program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and practical skills for leadership roles in public relations, communications, and related fields. The program requires the completion of 5.0 units, including a 0.5 unit project seminar, and offers a comprehensive curriculum that balances theoretical foundations with hands-on professional experience. Core courses such as GPRL 6101, 6104, 6301, 6302, 6303, 6304, and 6310 provide students with expertise in strategic communication, media relations, crisis management, research, and campaign planning, ensuring graduates develop both analytical and practical competencies essential for success in diverse organizational settings. In addition, students complete 1.5 units of electives, selected from courses including GPRL 6305, 6306, 6307, 6308, 6399, and 6511, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific professional interests or emerging trends in the field. With faculty guidance, students may also take up to 0.5 units of electives outside the MPR program, subject to approval, to further expand their expertise. The program emphasizes applied learning through projects, case studies, and, optionally, a paid summer internship, providing opportunities to integrate academic knowledge with real-world experience and prepare graduates to excel as skilled, innovative, and ethical public relations practitioners in corporate, nonprofit, and governmental contexts.
