COURSE CURRICULUM

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) offers students the flexibility to pursue either a course-based or project-based Master’s program, allowing them to tailor their graduate studies to their professional goals and interests. All students complete four core courses—GTSL 6360, GTSL 6361, GTSL 6362, and GTSL 6363—each valued at 0.5 unit, providing a foundation in TESOL theory, language acquisition, assessment, and pedagogy. In the project-based option, students complete GEDU 6140 (0.5 unit) and 1.5 units of GTSL electives, enabling them to engage in applied research or a specialized project that integrates theory with practice. Alternatively, the course-based program requires 2.0 units of GTSL electives, offering broader academic exposure and flexibility to explore diverse areas within TESOL. Both options include 1.0 unit of 6000-level electives from the Faculty of Education or other university departments, subject to academic advisor approval, fostering interdisciplinary learning and the development of research, critical thinking, and professional skills. This program equips graduates to effectively support English language learners in a variety of local and international contexts, preparing them for leadership roles, evidence-based practice, and specialized contributions in educational, community, or research settings.
