COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education in Elementary and Middle School Education at Mount Saint Vincent University is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills for teaching in elementary and middle school settings. The program requires the completion of 5.0 units of coursework, with some students needing to complete additional prerequisite courses depending on their background. Core courses include GEDU 6170 and GEMS 6424, which provide foundational knowledge in education theory and practice. Students also select 1.0 unit from a range of specialized courses, including options in curriculum development, assessment, and instructional strategies. Additionally, 2.0 units of GEMS courses are required in subject-specific areas such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, allowing students to deepen their expertise in the subjects they will teach. To further enhance their professional development, students complete 1.0 unit of graduate-level electives, chosen in consultation with a faculty advisor to align with their individual goals and interests.
