COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (Educational Psychology): Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing at Mount Saint Vincent University is a specialized non-thesis graduate program designed to prepare educators to work effectively with students who have hearing loss. Students in this program must complete 5.5 units of coursework focused on both the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching learners who are deaf or hard of hearing. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of audiology, speech and language development, sign language, and literacy education, along with the skills to modify and adapt curricula to meet individual learning needs. Courses such as GEDU 6170, GSPY 6823, and GEPY 6903–6923 are structured to help future specialists understand the cognitive, linguistic, and social-emotional development of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Additionally, the program emphasizes inclusive education practices, collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams, and the use of assistive and communication technologies to enhance learning. Students are encouraged to integrate evidence-based practices and reflective teaching strategies to support diverse learners in various educational settings. Upon completion, graduates are equipped to serve as skilled teachers, consultants, or specialists, contributing to the advancement of equitable and accessible education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
