COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (Educational Psychology): Education of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired at Mount Saint Vincent University is a specialized non-thesis program requiring the completion of 5.5 units of coursework. This graduate program is designed to equip educators with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to support and teach students who are blind or visually impaired. The curriculum combines theoretical understanding with practical applications, covering essential topics such as educational psychology, visual impairment assessment, adaptive teaching strategies, and the use of assistive technology. Core courses include GEDU 6170, GSPY 6823, and several GEPY courses (6911–6919) that emphasize developing expertise in areas like Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, efficient use of residual vision, and individualized education planning. The program also focuses on fostering collaboration and consultation skills, preparing graduates to work effectively with families, medical professionals, and other educators involved in supporting students with visual impairments. As part of the university’s ongoing curriculum review process, the program remains responsive to emerging research, evolving educational practices, and the changing demands of the profession.
