COURSE CURRICULUM

The MAEd in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program requires the completion of 5.0 units, combining core courses, research methods, and electives to provide a comprehensive and flexible graduate-level education. Required courses include GTSL 6360, GTSL 6361, GTSL 6362, and GTSL 6363, each valued at 0.5 unit, alongside GEDU 6130, a 1.0 unit course designed to deepen knowledge of TESOL theory and practice. In addition, students complete 0.5 unit in research methods, choosing from GEDU 6100 or GEDU 6107, to develop skills in designing, conducting, and analyzing educational research relevant to TESOL contexts. A further 0.5 unit is dedicated to GTSL electives, allowing students to tailor their learning to specialized areas such as curriculum development, assessment, language acquisition, or intercultural communication. To broaden academic and professional perspectives, students also undertake 1.0 unit of 6000-level electives from the Faculty of Education or other university departments, subject to approval by an academic advisor, enabling interdisciplinary learning and the integration of theory with practical application. This combination of required courses, research training, and elective study equips graduates to engage in evidence-based practice, leadership, and scholarly inquiry within TESOL, preparing them to support English language learners effectively in diverse local and international educational contexts.
