COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Communication (MAC) is a thesis-based graduate program designed to prepare students for advanced research, scholarly inquiry, and professional practice in the field of communication. The program requires the completion of 3.5 units of coursework alongside a 1.5 unit thesis, allowing students to combine rigorous academic study with the development of original research. Core courses, including GPRL 6101, 6102, 6105, 6109, and 6230, provide foundational knowledge in communication theory, media studies, research methods, and strategic communication, equipping students with analytical, critical thinking, and research skills essential for addressing complex communication challenges. In addition, students select 1.5 units of electives from a range of courses such as GPRL 6103, 6107, 6108, 6201, 6202, 6203, and 6511, allowing for specialized study in areas like public relations, media analysis, digital communication, and organizational communication, tailored to their academic and professional interests. The program emphasizes independent scholarly inquiry through the thesis, in which students design, conduct, and present original research under faculty supervision, demonstrating mastery of research methodology, critical analysis, and professional communication. Graduates of the MAC program are prepared to pursue careers as communication specialists, consultants, policy analysts, or continue toward doctoral studies, combining advanced theoretical knowledge with practical and research-based expertise in the field.
