COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management degree requires the successful completion of 20.0 units of coursework, combined with either three co-operative education terms or two work experience terms, depending on the student’s route. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in 8.0 units of required coursework, including 4.0 units of THMT electives, while meeting all co-operative education program requirements. The degree allows for completion of a 3.0 unit minor in any discipline, except BUSI, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the minor courses. Required courses cover foundational business, communication, economics, mathematics, and specialized tourism and hospitality management subjects, including THMT 1101, 1116, 1201, 2205, 2216, 2221, 3221, 3362, 3401, 3403, 4442, and selected BUSI/THMT courses, with substitutions permitted if certain courses are unavailable. Co-op students complete three work terms (THMT 1188, 2288, 3388), while work experience route students complete two 455-hour work terms (THMT 2299 and 3399). In addition, students complete 3.0 units of tourism electives, including 1.0 unit at the 4000 level, 2.5 units of Arts and/or Science electives, 0.5 unit of Humanities, and 0.5 unit of free elective, with departmental approval for limited substitutions. Tourism electives include courses in management, marketing, event planning, and hospitality, preparing students for diverse career opportunities locally and globally.
