COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Public Relations degree at Mount Saint Vincent University requires the successful completion of 20.0 units of coursework along with either three co-operative education terms for students in the co-op option or two work experience terms for those in the work experience option. Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 in 8.0 units of required coursework, including all PBRL courses, noting that co-op and work experience term courses do not count toward this GPA calculation. The program also allows students to complete a 3.0-unit minor in a department-approved discipline, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the minor. Required courses total 13.5 units and include foundational business and communication courses such as BUSI 1112, BUSI 2230, MATH 2208, COMM 2016, COMM 2025, COMM 3017, and COMM 3023, alongside core public relations courses including PBRL 1010, 2012, 2013/COMM 2013, 2211/COMM 2211, 3012, 3013/COMM 3013, 3014, 3016, 3020, 4014, 4015, 4019, 4101, and 4107. Students in the co-op option complete PBRL 1188, 2288, and 3388, while those in the work experience option complete PBRL 1199 and 2299. Additional requirements include 0.5 units in Women’s Studies or Women’s Emphasis, 0.5 units of ENGL at the 1000 level or above, and 8.5 units of electives, of which at least 3.0 units must be at the 3000 level or above and at least 4.0 units must come from Arts and Sciences courses.
