COURSE CURRICULUM

The Elementary Education program requires students to complete a total of 10.0 units, combining required courses, electives, and practicum experiences to ensure a comprehensive professional preparation. The required courses, totaling 6.5 units, cover foundational and advanced topics in education, including courses such as EDUC 5002/NSCAD EDAR 5050, EDUC 5201, 5202, 5204, 5206, 5207, 5441, 5444, 5450, 5461, 5462, 5471, and 5481, along with a 0.5-unit elective selected from a broad range of approved options, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. In addition to coursework, students must complete 3.0 units of practicum and associated seminars, including EDUC 5490 (1.0 unit) and EDUC 5495 (2.0 units), providing practical classroom experience under the guidance of professional mentors. Successful performance in these practicum courses is essential, as receiving a final grade of “F” in any designated practicum course prohibits continuation in the program. Placement in practicum settings requires good academic standing, and students who have not completed prior coursework successfully may face delays or be denied placement.
