COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish at Mount Saint Vincent University offers a comprehensive progression in language proficiency and cultural understanding, starting with foundational courses and advancing to specialized and independent studies. The program begins with SPAN 1101 and 1102, Spanish Language and Culture I and II, designed for students with no prior knowledge, emphasizing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills alongside Spanish and Spanish-American cultural values, with laboratory sessions required. Students then progress to SPAN 2201 and 2202, Spanish in Our World I and II, which develop oral and written communication while exploring contemporary Hispanic culture in North America. Cultural studies continue in SPAN 2921, Focus on Latin America: Latin American Culture and Civilization, examining historical, societal, and linguistic influences. Advanced language courses include SPAN 3301 and 3302, Advanced Conversation-Composition I and II, refining grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills and preparing students for the Basic Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language.
