COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology/Anthropology major requires students to complete a total of 20.0 units, including a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 units in the major. Core courses include SOAN 1502, SOAN 2500, 3501, 3511, and 3512, providing a strong foundation in sociological and anthropological theory and research methods. In addition, students must complete between 5.5 and 7.5 additional units of SOAN, with at least 3.5 units at the 2000 level or above and 2.0 units at the 3000 level or above, ensuring advanced study within the discipline. A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required in the 8.0 units of SOAN coursework. Beyond the major, students must complete a 3.0-unit minor as specified by the offering department, with a minimum GPA of 2.0, and may optionally pursue a second 3.0-unit minor or up to 2.5 additional units of arts or science electives. Students are also required to complete 1.0 unit from each core group under the Bachelor of Arts (General Studies) framework, including Core A in Sciences & Mathematics (with MATH 2208 and 2209 strongly recommended), Core B in Social Sciences, and Core C in Humanities. At least 9.0 units of the total coursework must be at the 2000 level or above, ensuring students engage with intermediate and advanced-level academic material.
