COURSE CURRICULUM

Students intending to complete the Public Policy Studies major at the Mount must declare their intention before registering for their sixth unit of coursework; failure to do so will prevent them from registering for further courses in the program. The Mount also offers a limited enrollment internship option, providing practical experience in public affairs. To complete the program, students must successfully finish 20 units, including foundational courses in economics, political science, and philosophy, as well as courses in writing and communication. Students choose from a variety of intermediate and advanced courses in economics, political science, Canadian studies, and related disciplines, allowing them to explore areas such as policy analysis, governance, ethics, and social justice. A senior-level course ensures that students integrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program. Students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in the required courses for the major. In addition to the major, students are required to complete a 3-unit minor in a field designated by the relevant department, with the option to pursue a second minor or additional electives. At least nine units must be at the 2000 level or above, ensuring that students engage with advanced material and develop the critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills needed for careers in public service, research, and policy-related professions.
