COURSE CURRICULUM

Political Studies major at the Mount must declare their intention before registering for their sixth unit of coursework; failure to do so will prevent further registration in the program. The university also offers a limited enrollment internship option to provide practical experience. To graduate, students must successfully complete 20.0 units, including a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 units in the major. Core courses cover introductory and senior-level Canadian politics, political theory, and additional political studies courses, with at least 3.0 units at the 3000 level or above. Students may include up to 2.0 units of directed study. A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required in the major courses. Students must also complete a minor consisting of 3.0 units in a field approved by the department, with the option to choose a second minor or up to 2.5 additional units of arts or science electives. In addition, students must take one unit from each of the general studies core groups: Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Humanities. At least 9.0 units of coursework must be at the 2000 level or above, ensuring both depth and breadth of study. This structure prepares students for critical analysis, informed citizenship, and potential careers in public service, policy development, or further academic pursuits.
