COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing a History major must complete a total of 20.0 units, including a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 units within the major. This includes one unit at the introductory level, which may be selected from a range of 1000-level courses or, with departmental permission, substituted by a 2000-level course. Students are required to complete three units at the 2000 level, as well as specific courses at the advanced level, providing in-depth study of historical methods and themes. Additionally, two units at the 3000 level or above are required, with no more than six units taken within any single area of study, such as European, North American, or World history. Students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in the required major courses. A minor of 3.0 units is also required, with a minimum GPA of 2.0, and students may choose an optional second minor or up to 2.5 units of additional electives. Furthermore, one unit must be completed in each of the core groups: Sciences and Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Humanities. At least 9.0 units of the total coursework must be at the 2000 level or higher, ensuring students gain both breadth and depth in historical study, critical thinking, and research skills, preparing them for diverse career paths or further graduate study.
