COURSE CURRICULUM

The French Major at Mount Saint Vincent University requires students to declare their intention to pursue the major before registering for their sixth unit of coursework, as failure to do so will prevent further registration in the program. The degree consists of 20.0 units, with a strong focus on advanced French language and literature. Students must complete a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 units in French above the 1000 level, including FREN 2214, 2215, 2253, 2254, 3314, and 3315, as well as a French literature course at the 3000 level or above, with at least 4.0 units at the 3000 level or higher. A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required in these French courses. Additionally, students must complete a minor, typically in English or Spanish, consisting of 3.0 units, achieving a minimum GPA of 2.0, and may choose a second minor in any eligible area. The curriculum also includes 1.0 unit each from Core A (Sciences & Mathematics), Core B (Social Sciences), and Core C (Humanities). At least 9.0 units must be at the 2000 level or above, and no more than 4.0 units from professional areas may be counted toward the degree. Up to 4.0 units of directed, independent, or research studies may be included, with a maximum of 2.0 units per discipline.
