COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in Aging and Family Science is designed for students with a focused interest in understanding family dynamics, development, and aging within diverse social contexts. Students must declare their major before registering for their sixth unit of coursework, and a limited-enrollment internship option is available. To graduate, students must complete 20.0 units, including a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 units in the major with a minimum GPA of 2.0, at least 9.0 units at the 2000 level or above, and 3.0 units at the 3000 level or higher. Required Aging and Family Science courses totaling 5.5 units include AGFS 1100, 1101, 2312, 2315, 2400, 3327, 3330, 3480, 4300, 4345, and 4401. Students also complete 2.5 units of Arts and Science courses, including MATH 2208 and 2209, LIBR 2100, and 1.0 unit of ENGL or WRIT. Elective requirements include 2.5 units, with 2.0 units chosen from AGFS, PHIL, PSYC, and SOAN courses and an additional 0.5 unit of AGFS. Additionally, 3.0 units of Arts and Science electives provide further breadth. The program equips students with theoretical knowledge, research skills, and practical insights into family systems, aging, and human services, preparing graduates for careers in social services, healthcare, policy development, and related fields that support individuals, families, and communities.
