COURSE CURRICULUM

The Gerontology program requires students to successfully complete 20.0 units, with a minimum of 8.0 units and a maximum of 10.0 units within the major, ensuring a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in the required 8.0 units of Aging and Family Science (AGFS) courses. At least 9.0 units must be at the 2000 level or above, and 3.0 units of AGFS coursework must be at the 3000 level or higher, promoting advanced study and specialization. Required AGFS courses total 5.5 units and include foundational and upper-level courses such as AGFS 1100, 1101, 2100, 2400, 3327, 3330, 3480, 4300, 4345, 4401, and 4450, providing comprehensive knowledge of aging and family dynamics. In addition, students complete 2.5 units of required Arts and Science courses, including MATH 2208, 2209, LIBR 2100, and 1.0 unit of English and/or Writing courses to support analytical and communication skills. Electives account for 2.5 units, with 2.0 units chosen from options such as AGFS/PSYC 2220, AGFS/WOMS 3305, AGFS/RELS 3307, AGFS 3314, NUTR 3330, AGFS/SOAN 3551, AGFS 4416, AGFS 4481, and AGFS 4491, and 0.5 additional units in AGFS to deepen major-specific knowledge. Finally, students complete 3.0 units of Arts and Science electives, allowing for exploration of broader academic interests while complementing the core study of aging and family science.
