COURSE CURRICULUM

The B.A. and B.Sc. Honours programs in Psychology at Mount Allison require the completion of 78 credits, building on the foundation of either the Major in Psychology. The first 60 credits mirror the structure of the corresponding Major, whether B.A. or B.Sc., combining core psychology courses with complementary courses in arts, humanities, social sciences, or sciences, depending on the chosen degree. In addition to the Major requirements, Honours students complete 18 advanced credits in Psychology, which must include PSYC 3001, 3901, 4903, and 4990, selected in consultation with the Program Advisor. These courses provide in-depth exploration of specialized topics, advanced research methods, and independent study opportunities, including a significant research project through PSYC 4990, which fosters skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scholarly writing. The Honours curriculum emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical research experience, enabling students to engage critically with psychological concepts and empirical findings. By integrating advanced coursework with hands-on research, students develop strong analytical, methodological, and communication skills, preparing them for professional careers in health, education, and applied psychology, or for graduate study in psychology, neuroscience, or related scientific disciplines. The program cultivates a rigorous, research-oriented mindset while deepening understanding of human behaviour and mental processes.
