COURSE CURRICULUM

Honours in Physics requires the completion of 87 credits, building on the foundational Major program and offering greater depth and specialization. The first 51 credits mirror the Major requirements, providing a solid grounding in core physics courses, supporting chemistry and biology courses, and essential mathematics and computational skills. Beyond this, students undertake advanced coursework to develop research and analytical expertise. PHYS 4990 (6 credits) emphasizes independent research, critical thinking, and the application of theoretical knowledge to complex problems. Advanced physics courses such as PHYS 3201 and PHYS 3821 (6 credits) deepen understanding of specialized areas, while higher-level mathematics courses—including MATH 314 (3 credits) and a selection from MATH 2221, 3131, 3161, 3221, and 341 (13 credits)—equip students with rigorous analytical tools for modeling and problem-solving. Students also select 3 credits of physics at the 3000/4000 level, and 6 credits of 4000-level physics, in consultation with the Program Advisor, allowing tailored study in areas of interest or emerging research fields. Additionally, 6 credits of advanced physics or mathematics at the 3000/4000 level provide flexibility to explore interdisciplinary applications or strengthen mathematical foundations. Collectively, the Honours program cultivates both theoretical insight and experimental expertise, preparing graduates for graduate study, research careers, or advanced positions in science, technology, and engineering.
