COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours in Computer Science at Mount Allison University is a 78-credit program designed for students who wish to pursue advanced study and research in computing while also integrating a strong scientific foundation. Building on the 63-credit B.Sc. Computer Science major, the program provides comprehensive training in core areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software and hardware design, and computational theory, while also including complementary courses in mathematics, natural sciences, and related disciplines to enhance analytical and quantitative skills. Beyond the major, Honours students complete 3 additional credits in Computer Science at the 3/4000 level, allowing deeper engagement with specialized topics such as artificial intelligence, cryptography, databases, computer graphics, or networks. An additional 6 credits are chosen from advanced Computer Science or Mathematics courses at the 3/4000 level, further strengthening technical expertise and problem-solving abilities essential for complex computational challenges. A key feature of the Honours program is the 6-credit COMP 4990 research course, in which students work closely with faculty to undertake original, supervised research projects, applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems while developing critical thinking, independent inquiry, and communication skills. Together, the program equips graduates for careers in computing, interdisciplinary fields, or graduate studies in computer science and related areas.
