COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours program builds on the Major, requiring 84 credits in total, which includes all 75 Major credits plus an additional 9 credits from BIOC 4990 and BIOC 4903, emphasizing research and advanced study in biochemistry, preparing students for graduate-level work or professional careers in the field.The Biochemistry Major requires a total of 75 credits, structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Students complete 21 credits in core biochemistry courses, including BIOC 1001, 2001, 3001, 3031, 3041, 3521, and 4031, along with 3 additional credits from upper-level biochemistry courses at the 3000/4000 level. Biology courses contribute 19 credits, with requirements spanning introductory and advanced courses such as BIOL 1501, 2101, 2201, 2301, 2401, 2701, 2811, 3111, 3211, 3631, 3711, 4151, 4211, and GENS 1401. Chemistry forms a substantial portion, with 15 credits from foundational courses (CHEM 1001, 1021, 2111, 2411, 3111), 6 credits from intermediate chemistry courses (CHEM 2211, 2311, 3131 or BIOC 3131), and 16 credits from advanced biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or general science courses at the 3000/4000 level, including a minimum of 3 credits in BIOC or CHEM. Mathematics and physics each contribute 3 credits through MATH 1111 or 1151, MATH 1121, PHYS 1051, and PHYS 1551.
