COURSE CURRICULUM

A Bachelor of Science (BSc) major in Psychology at Mount Allison requires the completion of 60 credits, integrating a strong foundation in psychology with complementary science courses. The program includes 42 credits in Psychology, beginning with introductory courses PSYC 1001 and 1011 (6 credits) that provide an overview of the field and its core principles. Students then progress to intermediate courses such as PSYC 2001 and 2011, as well as PSYC 2101, 2201, and 2301 (16 credits), covering areas including developmental, cognitive, social, and biological psychology. Upper-level study comprises 12 credits in 3000- and 4000-level Psychology courses, with a maximum of 3 credits from PSYC 4950 or 513, plus 9 credits of 4000-level Psychology courses, excluding PSYC 4950 or 519, allowing students to pursue advanced topics and research under faculty guidance. The science component (18 credits) includes 6 credits in mathematics—three from MATH 1111 or 1151 and three from courses such as MATH 1121, 1251, 1311, 2211, 2221, or COMP 1631—3 credits in physical sciences (PHYS 1041, 1051, or CHEM 1001), 3 credits in biological sciences (BIOL 1001, 1501, or BIOC 1001), and 6 credits from complementary science courses in fields such as biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, math, physics, or GENS, excluding Psychology. This curriculum develops rigorous analytical, experimental, and interdisciplinary skills, preparing graduates for careers in research, health sciences, technology, and further study in psychology or related scientific fields.
