COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interdisciplinary B.Sc. program in Environmental Science at Mount Allison University provides students with a rigorous, science-based foundation to understand and address environmental issues from multiple perspectives. The minor in Environmental Science requires 24 credits, beginning with foundational courses such as GENS 1401 and introductory biology, chemistry, and physics, followed by intermediate courses including BIOL 2701, GENS 2431, and MATH 1311, and culminating in advanced 3/4000-level courses that allow students to explore specialized topics in environmental science. The major program, totaling 69 credits, builds extensively on this foundation with a broader range of courses, including general studies (GENS 1401, 2421, 2101, 2111, 2411, 2441, 2881), core sciences such as BIOL 1001, 2101, BIOC 1001, CHEM 1001, and PHYS 1041 and 1051, as well as mathematics courses MATH 1111 and 1151, and additional intermediate courses like BIOL 2701, GENS 2431, and MATH 1311. Both programs integrate theoretical learning with practical applications through laboratory work, field studies, and interdisciplinary projects, equipping students with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in environmental research, conservation, resource management, policy, and sustainability initiatives, or for advanced studies, with a strong emphasis on scientific understanding, ecological stewardship, and addressing complex environmental challenges locally and globally.
