COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Cognitive Science at Mount Allison University is a 60-credit Major designed to provide an interdisciplinary understanding of the mind by combining core courses in psychology and computer science with complementary studies in philosophy, mathematics, and other sciences. Psychology courses explore areas such as cognitive processes, behavioural neuroscience, sensation and perception, and learning, providing insights into the biological and mental mechanisms underlying human thought and behaviour. Computer science courses, including systems programming and artificial intelligence, equip students with the technical and analytical skills needed to model, simulate, and analyze cognitive processes, integrating computational approaches with psychological theory. Complementary courses in philosophy foster critical thinking about consciousness, reasoning, and the ethical implications of cognitive research, while mathematics and other sciences strengthen quantitative and analytical abilities essential for research and data interpretation. The program emphasizes experiential learning through independent summer research projects, directed studies, and participation as research assistants in faculty-led projects, allowing students to gain practical experience in experimental design, data analysis, and interdisciplinary problem-solving. By blending multiple disciplines, the BSc in Cognitive Science prepares students for careers in research, technology, healthcare, data science, and artificial intelligence, as well as for graduate study in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, cognitive science, and related fields, providing a rigorous foundation for understanding and investigating the human mind.
