COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry Major at Mount Allison University requires a total of 63 credits and is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in chemical principles, preparing students for advanced study or professional careers in chemistry and related fields. The program begins with introductory courses in general chemistry (CHEM 1001, 1021) and foundational mathematics (MATH 1111 or 1151, MATH 1121, and MATH 2111, 2121, 2221 or CHEM 3201*), along with introductory biochemistry (BIOC 1001, 2001) and physics (PHYS 1051, 1551**), establishing the essential quantitative and scientific skills needed for higher-level study. Intermediate-level coursework includes CHEM 2111, 2211, 2311, and 2411, providing in-depth study in analytical, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. Advanced courses, including CHEM 3111, 3231, 3321, 3421, and specialized options such as CHEM 3121, 3161, 3271, 3751, 4511, 4951, 4953, as well as BIOC 3001, 3031, and 3521, allow students to focus on areas of interest and gain practical laboratory and research experience. Finally, students complete 9 credits of 3000- and 4000-level chemistry courses, excluding certain specialized research courses, ensuring both depth and flexibility in their studies.
