COURSE CURRICULUM

Honours in Religious Studies at Mount Allison requires the completion of 72 credits, building upon the 60-credit structure of the Major program. The Major provides a solid foundation in the study of religion, beginning with 6 credits from the Humanities 1600 series and 9 credits from core Religious Studies courses, such as RELG 2401, 2411, 2521, 2801, 2811, 2821, 2831, and 2841, which introduce key texts, traditions, and concepts. Students then pursue intermediate courses including RELG 3901, RELG 3001 or 3101, RELG 3301 or 3311, and 6 credits from RELG 3501, 3601, or 3701, along with 12 credits of 3000- and 4000-level Religious Studies courses, with at least 6 credits at the 4000 level, allowing for specialized study and engagement with advanced scholarship. Complementary courses in Arts and Letters, Humanities, and Social Sciences (18 credits) provide interdisciplinary perspectives and contextual understanding. Building on this foundation, the Honours program adds 6 credits from RELG 4990, a supervised research project that develops independent research, analytical, and writing skills, as well as 6 additional credits in 3000- or 4000-level Religious Studies, selected in consultation with the Program Advisor. Together, these components cultivate critical thinking, research expertise, and in-depth knowledge, preparing graduates for careers in academia, research, public service, cultural organizations, or further graduate study.
