COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours in International Relations at Mount Allison University requires 72 credits and builds upon the foundational 60 credits completed in the Major program. This advanced degree deepens students’ understanding of global political, economic, and social systems through interdisciplinary study and focused research. In addition to the core courses in political science, economics, and modern languages, Honours students complete an additional 12 credits at the 4000 level — 6 from upper-level INLR courses and 6 from the 4000-level courses within one of their chosen elective streams. These advanced courses encourage critical engagement with complex international issues such as global governance, economic interdependence, security, human rights, and environmental sustainability. Through rigorous analysis and research, students develop a sophisticated grasp of both theoretical and practical dimensions of international relations. The program’s interdisciplinary nature allows students to integrate perspectives from history, sociology, economics, and political science while honing analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in diplomacy, global policy, international organizations, and non-governmental agencies, or for pursuing advanced studies in international affairs, law, public policy, or related fields.
