COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours program in Economics at Mount Allison University is designed for students in both Arts and Commerce who seek a deeper and more rigorous understanding of economic theory, quantitative methods, and policy analysis, particularly those planning to pursue graduate studies. The Honours program requires 72 credits, building on the foundation of the major while incorporating advanced courses and specialized study. Students complete 51 credits as in the first five lines of the Economics major, covering core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, policy analysis, and essential mathematics and statistics. In addition, 12 credits are earned from advanced economics courses such as ECON 4001, 4011, 4711, 4721, 4801, 4811, 4821, and 4990, providing in-depth exposure to topics such as econometrics, international economics, and specialized economic theory. Students also complete 9 additional credits from Economics at the 3/4000 level or related courses in Philosophy, Mathematics, or Computer Science, chosen in consultation with the Economics Program Advisor, allowing for tailored academic exploration aligned with career or research goals. Prospective Honours students are strongly encouraged to include courses in Calculus, Linear Algebra, and advanced Statistics to strengthen analytical skills, and to seek guidance from the Department of Economics to design a program that maximizes preparation for graduate studies or professional careers in finance, research, policy, or academia.
