COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts Major in Mathematics at Mount Allison University is a comprehensive 60-credit program designed to develop a strong foundation in mathematical theory, analytical reasoning, and practical application. Students begin with core courses such as MATH 1111 or 1151, and progress through fundamental topics including calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, and differential equations, with 12 credits earned from MATH 1121, 2111, 2211, and 2221. Advanced study continues with courses like MATH 1311, 2121, and upper-level subjects such as MATH 3111, 3141, 3161, 3211, 3221, 3231, and 4011, providing a deep understanding of pure and applied mathematics. Students also engage in specialized areas including MATH 3151, 3311, and 3411, while completing 15 credits of mathematics courses at the 3000 or 4000 level to enhance expertise in areas of interest. To strengthen computational and technical skills, 6 credits are taken from computer science courses (COMP 1631 and 1731). Additionally, students choose 12 credits from complementary disciplines in consultation with the Program Advisor, encouraging interdisciplinary connections. This major prepares graduates for careers in research, data science, education, technology, finance, and for further studies in mathematics and related fields requiring advanced analytical and quantitative abilities.
