COURSE CURRICULUM

The Major in International Relations at Mount Allison University requires 60 credits and offers an interdisciplinary approach to understanding global systems, politics, and cultures. The core component (42 credits) provides a strong foundation in political science, economics, and modern languages. Students complete courses such as POLS 1001 and INLR/POLS 2301, additional political science courses at both the 2000 and 3000 levels, and a selection of INLR courses at the 3000 or 4000 level. Economic understanding is built through foundational courses in ECON 1001 and 1011, alongside upper-level options such as ECON 3301, 3401, or 3501. Language proficiency is developed through 12 credits in French, German, Japanese, or Spanish, strengthening cross-cultural communication and global awareness. In addition to the core, students select two optional streams (18 credits total) from areas such as Economics, English, Geography and Environment, History, Political Science, Religious Studies, or Sociology. These streams allow students to tailor their degree toward specific global themes, such as economic policy, environmental issues, historical relations, global governance, or cultural dynamics. The program integrates theory, research, and applied analysis, preparing graduates for careers in diplomacy, policy, international development, global business, or further studies in international affairs and related disciplines.
