Core courses include SPAN 1101 — Introductory Spanish, providing foundational skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking; ISPAN 1811 — Latin America in Its Own Voice, which explores Latin American culture and perspectives through literature, media, and historical texts; SPAN 2701 — Indigeneity in the Americas, examining Indigenous histories, cultures, and experiences across the continent; SPAN 3241 — Gender in Spanish Literature and Culture, analyzing gender, identity, and representation within Hispanic literary and artistic works; SPAN 3321 — Spanish-American Theatre, which immerses students in performance, dramatic texts, and theatrical traditions; and SPAN 4201 — Visual Culture of the Hispanic World, investigating visual arts, film, and cultural expression across Spanish-speaking regions.
