COURSE CURRICULUM

The Disciplinary B.A. in Geography at Mount Allison allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of both human and physical geography through structured coursework. A Minor in Geography requires 24 credits, including 6 credits from foundational courses such as GENV 1201 and GENS 1401, along with 18 credits in Geography and Environment courses, of which 6 must be at the 3/4000 level, selected in consultation with the Program Advisor to ensure alignment with the student’s academic interests and goals. The Major in Geography consists of 60 credits and provides a more in-depth exploration of geographical principles and practices. Students complete 6 credits from introductory courses like GENS 1401 and 2421, 3 credits from GENV 1201, and 9 credits from core Geography and Environment courses such as GENV 2101, 2201, 2221, 2811, and HIST 2301. An additional 9 credits are earned through courses including GENS 2431, 2441, 3401, or GENV 3701. The program emphasizes advanced learning with 18 credits at the 3/4000 level, including at least 6 credits from the 4000 level. To round out the degree, 15 credits from complementary courses are selected in consultation with the Program Advisor, allowing students to tailor their studies and gain interdisciplinary perspectives while preparing for careers in environmental planning, policy, conservation, and spatial analysis.
