COURSE CURRICULUM

The B.A. Joint Major in Geocomputing at Mount Allison is an 87-credit program designed to integrate computer science and geographical studies, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of both fields. The program includes foundational and advanced courses in computer science, beginning with 18 credits from COMP 1631, 1731, 2211, 2611, 2711, and 2931, followed by 19 credits from advanced courses COMP 3611, 3811, and 3851, as well as 16 additional credits at the 3/4000 level selected in consultation with the Computer Science Program Advisor. Mathematics forms a critical part of the curriculum, with 3 credits from MATH 1111 and 1151 and 16 credits from MATH 1121 and 2221, providing the quantitative skills necessary for computational analysis. Students also take 16 credits in foundational environmental and geographical courses, including GENV 1201, GENS 1401, and advanced courses such as GENV 2001, 2101, and 3201. Further, 12 credits are earned from GENS 2431, 2441, 3441, 3481, and 4721, along with 3 credits from GENS 3401 or GENV 3701. The program includes 15 additional credits from GENV or GENS courses, with 9 at the 3/4000 level, and a final 3-credit capstone project (GENS 4951) selected in consultation with both the CS and GENS Program Advisors. This structure equips students with the interdisciplinary skills necessary to analyze spatial data, model environmental systems, and apply computational methods to complex geographical challenges.
