COURSE CURRICULUM

The Major in Women’s and Gender Studies at Mount Allison University requires the completion of 60 credits, designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of feminist theory, gender studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to social justice. Students begin with foundational courses that introduce the principles and key concepts of Women’s and Gender Studies, followed by intermediate courses that explore critical perspectives on gender, sexuality, race, class, and other intersecting social identities. Advanced courses allow students to engage in in-depth study, including research projects and specialized topics that encourage critical thinking, analysis, and scholarly writing. The program also incorporates a broad selection of interdisciplinary electives drawn from related fields such as art history, Canadian studies, classics, history, English, geography and environment, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, and Spanish, enabling students to examine gender issues from multiple perspectives. Additionally, students may choose further complementary courses to tailor their studies to specific interests or career goals. Through this combination of core, advanced, and interdisciplinary coursework, the Women’s and Gender Studies major equips students with analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing them for graduate studies, careers in social advocacy, education, policy, or any field requiring critical engagement with issues of equity, diversity, and social transformation.
