COURSE CURRICULUM

The Disciplinary B.A. Programs in English at Mount Allison University offer structured pathways for both minors and majors, combining foundational courses with advanced study and complementary coursework. The Minor in English requires 24 credits, beginning with 3 credits from ENGL 1201 or ARTS 1001, followed by 3 to 6 credits from ENGL 1501, 1701, 1801, or 1851, and 6 to 9 credits from English courses at the 2000 level, with the option to substitute 3 credits from ARTS 2001. Students then complete 9 to 15 credits from English courses at the 3000/4000 level, with up to 3 credits from ARTS 3000/4000-level courses allowed as substitutions. The Major in English is a 60-credit program that starts with 3 credits from ENGL 1201 or ARTS 1001, followed by 3 to 6 credits from ENGL 1501, 1701, 1801, or 1851, and 6 to 12 credits from English at the 2000 level, including ENGL 2201 and 2301. Students then complete 21 to 33 credits from English courses at the 3000/4000 level, including at least 6 credits from Category 1 courses, and 18 credits from complementary courses in Arts and Letters, Humanities, and Social Sciences chosen in consultation with a Program Advisor. This structure ensures students gain both depth and breadth in English studies, fostering analytical, critical, and research skills applicable across academic and professional contexts.
